Health Expert -Preventing Injuries

This week’s expert is Ruth O’Connor, Chartered Physiotherapist from Apollo Physiotherapy.

With the return of golf and tennis this week, Ruth’s top three tips for returning to sport safely and preventing injury are:

  1. Warm up

You may not have performed some of the specific movements  for tennis or golf for four months or more.

Perform some simple stretches and mobility exercises for the legs arms and back before you start playing

  1. Start Gently

Your first golf drive doesn’t need to end up on the green, and every tennis serve doesn’t need to be an ace! Ease back into playing-let your body get used to the movement again before trying to increase the intensity.

  1. Pace Yourself

Everybody is understandably very excited to get back playing after such a long lay-off but try to resist the urge to book tee-times or tennis courts every day just because you can! Take some days off in between to give your body time to get used to playing again.

Tip Number 4- Enjoy!!
